We're down to about a half dozen or so, which I assume are probably all 2nd clutch juveniles. I've maintaining 6 feeders at this point. The vast majority of ours left in mid September, including all of our adult males. The last adult male I saw was September 16th. It was extremely dry through the 2nd half of August and all of September. I personally believe that's why so many of ours took off all at once, as that is not usually the case.
We still have plenty of their favorite flowers blooming for them, including lots of Cuphea vermillionaire, many different varieties of Salvia, Porterweed, Tithonia, Lantana, several varieties of Shrimp plant, Gartenmeister Fuchsia, Mexican Petunia, Tourenia, Hamelia Patens, Pentas, Abelia, Dicliptera, Turk's Cap, and some Major Wheeler's honeysuckle and Jewelweed (both of those took a hit during that 6 week drought this summer).
We usually will have a few hang around until the 2nd or 3rd week of October and we also always have travelers stop by for rest and refueling. I'll eventually decrease to 2 feeders towards the end of the month after these little ones leave. I'll maintain those 2 throughout the winter as we had a juvenile male Rufous with us all winter a few years ago.
