Between 4 and 5 pm I counted 181 monarchs nectaring at the Arboretum on asters, agastache and thistle. Between 6:30 and 7 pm sunset I did another count to get a roosting number, and it came out to 170. The earlier count could have had duplicates. Temperature was 80 degrees with 15 mph south wind, sunny at 4 pm, then wind died down at sunset. More monarchs were scattered around the hedge and other trees to roost singly or just a few together. The blurry photo is of the largest group.
