Arrived to the tip area of Point Pelee National Park at 17:57. Sunset at 18:54. According to the weather app on my phone it was mostly cloudy (personal observation, mostly sunny) 18°C, windchill 16°C, wind N 11 km/h gusts to 15 km/h, 61% humidity, dewpoint 10°C, barometric pressure steady 102 kPa. After observing a roost on the east beach yesterday evening (see separate reports under Fall Roost and Peak Migration from Leamington/Point Pelee) decided that it would be a good place to start looking. In spite of the wind, Monarchs chose branches that were being gently impacted by the wind. Most individuals chose locations higher up in trees as you can see in my attached photograph. This is the largest tree in the immediate tip area. Monarchs were half to 3/4 the way up the tree. Others observed in Mulberry. Met up with visitors on the evening Monarch hike. My total is the official Monarch number for the park. There may well have been others as I did not leave myself enough time to do an adequate scan. All Monarchs were settled in. No flight activity observed. All were ideally placed with an eastern exposure to benefit from the suns rays at sunrise. Very few nectar sources available in this area. Overnight low forecast to be 11°C. Observations done using binoculars.
