Masses of butterflies nectaring from around 9 when it started to warm up through the day all on the same plant Mexican Sunflowers that they have been on in great numbers for a week. Its Spring like here and plants like the lilac bush are sprouting flowers!! They are all over the plant sharing the flowers often two at a time.
The monarch I found in the garden center greenhouse yesterday was very weak and as it was getting colder and starting to drizzle I put it in a butterfly tent in the house. I gave it some sugar water which it put its tongue in and seemed to be drinking. Then it spent the night. In the morning when it warmed up I took it out in the tent in the sun and he warmed up and started flapping his wings. I picked him up and put him on one of the flowers and watched him roll out his tongue and he started getting nectar. He then flew off sadly flying away from all the flowers.
Hope he makes it - if not at least he tried and was free - I named him Monty!!
