This area on our property is full of large, old trees and plenty of naturally occurring, flowering vegetation. They were all enjoying these yellow flowers and settling in the trees for the night. This was near sunset. I counted over 40 myself, but I’m sure there were more, as it seemed I kept seeing them resting in the trees or moving around to get settled for the night and I lost track. I happened upon them on my walk and they seemed to be in between roosting for the night and finishing off some sunset snacking on these yellow flowers.
In the spring, we have an incredible amount of native wildflowers in bloom, as well as antelope horn milkweed and we see a lot of them then as well. We seem to be a hot spot for a wide variety of butterflies. We try to leave our vegetation and seasonal flowers unmowed specifically for our pollinators.
