We have been seeing all sizes of Monarchs trailing in for a month. Some of them must have cacooned and hatched. Because they ate the butterfly weeds we have down to stems only now.
5 is conservative amount. We get fallen off attached to maple tree leaves stems that are empty on ground in winter too.
