Monarch Fall Roost
Sightings report image

Date: 10/12/2025

Number: 300

From Sunday, October 12 through Friday, October 17, we averaged 300 Monarchs a day. Llano Estacado chapter of Texas Master Naturalists tagged and tested for OE during this week. The Monarch arrived midafternoon every day; nectared on blue mist and then roosted high in various trees. About a 100 were tagged most days, with the majority of the Monarchs roosting high in the trees. Most were healthy; a few were tattered. We did not tag on Friday because we were netting mostly already tagged butterflies. As of yesterday the Monarchs had continued on their journey. Today, 6 Monarchs were sighted in trees; 2 were tagged. Today was our first and only cool day in the 70's. Back to 90-degrees tomorrow. Hopefully more will continue to visit.
