Today I observed this female monarch checking the milkweed and laying eggs. We had had overnight freezes the weekend before and the milkweed was badly freeze-damaged. I followed this wonderful monarch as she sailed around several acres laying eggs on multiple milkweed plants (Asclepias viridis). I saw her lay eggs on 30+ plants. She was still checking milkweed as I left her.

She tried to pick milkweed with some green to see, which was the best she could do given the options. She herself looked healthy and was quite active.
