Carlos Valdes Olvera, a 5th grade teacher in Angangueo, Mexico will plant Mexico's first Journey North tulip garden this January. Tulips are not usually grown in this region of Mexico, because the climate does not get cold enough during the winter. However, his class is eager to experiment! Their tulip bulbs will be refrigerated before planting. The famous monarch butterfly wintering sanctuaries surround the town of Angangueo. This winter, these students are caring for 30 paper butterflies as part of the "Journey South" project.
