There were migrant stoneflies on the snow-covered banks and stream-bottom of Cayuga Creek on Sunday, February 2, 1997 at 3:30 p.m. EST. The three-quarter inch long insects were all walking away from the open waters of the creek. They were most likely in search of mates. I did not see any of them in tandem (smaller male on top of larger female) as I have in other years. In some areas there was one insect in a square yard and in other areas there were four per square foot.
