Here in West Texas the groundhogs come out of hibernation in early March. They come out at different times because of the different times because of the different conditions in the climate. The normal time for them to come out in El Paso is about early March like the rest of the west Texas. They come out at that time because in the Southwest part of the country winter is usually always over sooner. So because of that, spring comes in early March and the sun starts to stay out longer and starts warming everything up. Here in El Paso groundhog day is almost always accurate, but officially spring almost always begins in mid-March, which is around March 21.
