The ponds around town as well as Canyon Ferry Reservoir nearby became ice-free between 3/10 and 3/19. Hyalite lake, however, only 10 mi. away is 1500 ft. higher in elevation and will not likely clear off until the end of May. It has been fun to watch the ducks and geese return to the ponds. We have even seen a few swans floating on the waves. Ice still clings to the sides of the rivers as we await the big thaw. With predictions of flooding we wonder how fast the 200% of normal snowpack will come down from the surrounding mountains.
