About 9:00 am as I was coming back from picking up my mail I saw approximately 11 birds flying toward me in formation. I just assumed they were geese until they came closer and flew low over me. I easily edentified them as loons while alomost crashing into a snow bank. Normally I don't see any loons until the middle of April when our lakes are free of ice. They must be nearby the Namekagon River which is open. On 3-11-97 I saw a robin twice, but I haven't seen it since the last snow storm. I hope this winter isn't causing hallucinatory experiences. Take care, ED and Muriel Severson.
