Spring has brought Monarchs to SW Dallas. On March 28 I saw the first Monarch of the year in my yard - an old tattered lady surfing the currents above the old milkweed patches. The next day we went to the Dallas Nature Center and saw about a dozen Monarchs. Most were old, none were really fresh looking. a few chased each other. No discernable flight. direction, well, maybe more north than east. They seemed to be nectaring, not vectoring. The milkweed is coming back, a few patches have three inches of growth (A. bug-eye and some common). No eggs yet though there have been about half a dozen Monarchs checking out the fields around us and our yard. Obnserver's E-mail Michael_Lastufka@sil.org
