Late this afternoon while Mountain Biking (prairie biking?) with my son, we saw our first Monarchs. Six or seven were investigating clumps of elms, hackberries, and Austrian Pines that are found in a local rural park. Interestingly enough, this is the same group of tree where we obtain most of our fall migrants for tagging. Little chance of capturing these guys, they are very fast and are flying 20-40 feet up.
