Tulips EMERGED

Date: 04/07/1997

Number: 1

After receiving two feet of snow on April first, which buried our garden just as our soil temperatures were reaching 36 degrees, we were surprised when we returned to school on Monday April 7, to find our first sprout popping up (with a small pile of snow still nearby). The weather here has been so eratic, that we can only hope for the best, but the sprout survived several nights of below freezing temperatures and was joined by another on Friday, April 11. The soil temperature is up to 46 degrees, which surprises us since our air temperatures have gone from 75 degrees back down to 34 degrees during the day and into the twenties on several nights. This is a very exciting process to document.
