Ice-Out

Date: 04/16/1997

Number: 1

I live on the shoreline of Lake Simcoe. We have kept data on when the ice has left the lake since 1985. It appears that the average date is around April 25th. At present most of the lake is covered with ice. There is some open water along the shoreline in front of our house, due to White's Creek entering the lake. The same is occuring at the mouth of the Beaver River. High winds recently have not caused much movement of the ice so it may be another week or so before the lake is clear.
