Hummingbird, Ruby-throated (FIRST)

Date: 05/09/1997

Number: 1

I've been waiting and waiting for my Hummers to return. Usually they make it before the Northern Orioles and Rose-Breasted Grossbeaks. Both the Orioles and Grossbeaks arrived here on Wednesday afternoon. Now it's Friday, the 9th. Finally at 12:05 P.M. today I sighted my first Ruby-Throated Hummingbird. I had just cleaned and refilled my 3 feeders early this morning....great timing! My Catbird returned to the yard today as well and as of noon today I am absolutely inundated with male Rose-Breasted Grossbeaks (5-6 eating safflower seed at the same time from various feeders in my hedgerow).
