Loon (FIRST sighted)

Date: 04/28/1997

Number: 1

We now have two pairs of loons on Johnson Lake. Burnett County - Oakland Township. As I told you earlier one loon was killed by a pontoon boat last summer, so the loon must have found a new mate. One pair is on the south side and one pair on the north side. The north side is probably the same pair as last year, and the south side finding a new mate. The water is so high I hope there will be no problem in nesting. The DNR put up an 'Eagle Nesting Box' last year, and we do have plenty of eagles. The eagles take the loon eggs, so last year we did not have any chicks. I will keep you posted.
