Monarch Adult Sighted

Date: 05/19/1997

Number: 1

Today we saw a female monarch flying at the edge of a corn field. We saw an egg on what we think is milkweed. The milkweed is around 1 1/2 inches tall. We were playing soccer when Andy W. spotted the monarch. Kyle spotted the milkweed and we found an egg on it. The egg is on the bottom of the leaf and it is a whitish yellow color. It is very small. We put up a sign so we know where it is. We thought it was very cool because it was our first time to see a monarch egg in real life. The female was faded and old looking. It seemed to be looking for a milkweed plant. The milkweed does not look like the milkweed that we planted in our room in school. The top of the leaf was green and the bottom was yellowish white. Tomorrow we are going to transplant the plants we planted in our room. Mr. Yoder's third grade
