Monarch Adult Sighted

Date: 05/23/1997

Number: 1

I have a patch of milkweed plants in my yard ranging from 3/4" to 8" tall. At last count I had 89 plants. I've checked the leaves and stems daily for monarch eggs and found 17 eggs today! There are more eggs on the smaller plants 1"-4" than on the larger plants. One plant has 2 eggs on one leaf, while all others are on stems or leaves by themselves. Last year at this time the milkweed had not emerged from the ground and the first egg was not found until July! Friends in the area have not seen their milkweed growing yet.
