Monarch Adult Sighted

Date: 05/05/1997

Number: 1

At 4PM on Friday, May 2nd I spotted a Monarch in Brodheadsville, PA (@25 miles N of Allentown, PA). It was sunny and about 70 degrees. I was not able to get close enough to determine the sex, but I was quite surprised at its size and brightness. It did not appear tattered at all. On Monday, May 5th, I spotted another Monarch in and around my garden and yard. It did not land to nectar on anything...although its behavior could definitly be described as searching. No milkweed shoots are out anywhere here yet. I have one potted milkweed in the house that I am going to put outside, weather permitting. We are still getting some occasional mild frosts.
