Monarch Adult Sighted

Date: 05/05/1997

Number: 1

Noted the first ragged female migrant monarchs here in central Ohio this past Sunday (May 4) and Monday (May 5). They wern't stopping to examine potential oviposition plants, but seemed still to be in 'migration mode'. There appears to be lots of new milkweed for them, so there may be a big population surge this Summer if many reach here soon. The May 4 sighting was in Gahanna, a suburb of Columbus, while the May 5 sighting was in Columbus.
