Monarch Adult Sighted

Date: 05/17/1997

Number: 1

On May 17, 1997 a monarch was spotted in NW Illinois, in the sand prairie areas of Carroll County, S. of Thompson, IL. The monarch flew in front of my vehicle. It appeared to be very light colored and flew in left-handed circles as it progressed westward about 5 ft off the ground. I was moving only about 15 mph at the time, and came to a quick stop in the middle of the gravel road, but was unable to relocate it after exiting my vehicle. I have been out each day for the past 2 weeks checking different areas around my home, the weather has been chilly until warming into the 70's this last friday.( Frost on windshields on Fri. A.M.)
