Subject: Central IA Sighting
May set records for coolness and record lows in central Iowa: plants and trees were slow to emerge. Milkweed in full sun is now about 12 inches high; the last week of warm weather brought it along a lot. I have not looked for eggs, 'cause I havn't seen any monarchs 'til now.
I saw my first (and only so far this year) monarch at 3:00 June 3, temp 80F with light north wind under growing overcast with threat of showers. Sex undetermined, but colors were bright. Activity was flap - glide while I watched it move south.
