Monarch Adult Sighted

Date: 06/04/1997

Number: 1

This morning during math class a monarch butterfly flew by our classroom windows. Two children, Brck and Ali,went out into the schoolyard to check if it really was a monarch. At recess today several children including Mary, Ken, Paige, Cora and Laura spotted a monarch and followed it as it flew around the school grounds. Maureen O'Hara and I also saw a monarch while we were on yard duty. We could not get close enough to verify if the monarch were a male or a female. The temperature was 28 degrees Celsius today with sunny skies and very little wind. The trees are finally fully leafed out and summer weather has arrived. Coincidentally, today was the day that the children received their butterflies from the symbolic migration. They were thrilled! It seems that everything came together for us today.
