Monarch Adult Sighted

Date: 05/30/1997

Number: 1

After seeing my report of finding monarch eggs in the Toledo region on May 30th, the Cleve. Mus. Nat.Hist checked their courtyard and found eggs on May 31st. I have no idea when this area had last been checked but I know they are in the field once a week in monarch areas but have not reported findings eggs until this finding. So this may not have been the earliest sighting for the momarch in that area. The area just east of Toledo that I spotted my eggs in had been checked 2 days before and no eggs were present then and the milkweed was considerably shorter than when the eggs were found two days later. None of the regional nature centers had found eggs before this time. We had heavy rain this weekend and it is to continue through 6/4.Temp daytime have been in the mid to upper 50's and upper 40's to low 50's at night. Flooding in the area is considerable in the areas I check, including the roads leading to the areas so I haven't been out there for 2 days. Doris
