The first monarch eggs were laid between 28 May 97 and 3 June 97 at Peninsula Point. Yesterday (6/12), the first monarch (a male) of the year was sighted near Peninsula Point at the tip of the Stonington Peninsula in Upper Michigan. The butterfly's behavior was similar to the males sighted in Door County, WI by Karen Oberhauser and her group. He was patrolling lilacs which are near an abandoned farm. Peninsula Point is located approximately 30 miles northeast of the site which Karen Oberhauser, Sue Borkin and Lincoln Brower are monitoring in Door County, WI.
