Willowick is an eastern suburb of Cleveland. I have been watching for Monarchs all of spring. I am monitoring an area of milkweed for Monarch Watch's Karen O. I found my first larva two weeks ago. I did not report this to Journey North. If you want the details let me know. I saw my first Monarch Butterfly on Friday afternoon June 27, 1997. It was very bright orange and no tatters. I could not catch it nor get close enough to determine its sex. I was right on the edge of Lake Erie. It was flying around the flowering wild grasses/etc. growing on the cliff edge. Due to the erosion problem of where I was, I did not venture to the area to see the sex. There was no milkweed in sight, at least any that I know how to identify. It was very sunny, in the 90's F., with a slight breeze from the north. The lake was very calm.
