I reported on 6/23 that I and some other in the Rochester, NY area had not observed any monarch butterfly activity in out area. Yesterday 6/25 I was happy to see a single monarch winging its way north along a north-bound section of the Erie Canal. The canal banks have almost always been a productive area to search for deposited eggs. Last year the banks were sprayed with vegetation killer, presumably to eliminate poison ivy so that was not a good year on the banks. This year the milkweed is back and so is a lot of the poison ivy.
