We have been eargerly awaiting seeing monachs since mid May. Finally on Thurs. June 26 I found several eggs and 1st instar larve & one a little older (2nd instar?? I-need more practice!) Still no verified sightings of monarchs, all turned out to disappear or be viceroys. I was on a retreat until the 30th so couldn't look any more-- several friends have been seeing them in the Saginaw Bay area of MI for a week or so, just non in Midland. Monday 30th was very windy and again only eggs and sighted "monarchs" from the car. On July 1 I finally netted a very worn female. So we have everything but a chrysilid for display on July 5, at Chippewa Nature Center to introduce the Midland area to monarch tagging and Monarch Watch. Most exciting tho was watching the egg hatch under the microscope. The Science Resources Center got a new TV camera with microscope mount, which I was practicing setting up for VCR recording --We saw the whole process! From the biting of a hole with an air bubb
