I have just seen my first Monarch butterfly of the year, I thought I would reply. I live in Perkins Quebec, which is in the Gatineau hills about 20 miles north of Ottawa. We have a lot of milkweed this year, and we deliberately left a large clump quite close to the house, where normally we would mow. We have seen one Monarch (one at a time, anyway), fluttering around the milkweed near the house, which is just coming into bloom. I know its a monarch because we had a good look at it when it was resting in the lilac tree. Black-and-white body is, I believe, diagnostic. We first saw it Thursday 10 July and have seen it each day since (its now Sunday).Marilyn Osborne
