In the spring of 1996 we constructed a butterlfy garden on our campus
using grant money from the Johnston County Education Foundation.
This past spring of 1997 we constructed another garden in the
front of our school along with a mini-pond that has a few aquatic
plants in it. We have about 5 butterfly weed plants and
many monarch caterpillars this year.We have all types of native
butterflies nectaring on our butterfly bushes and lantana.
We have alot of these because of participating in a project
through our N.C. Museum of Natural Sciences entitled "UTOTES"
Utilizing the Outdoors to Teach Experential Science.
