I was walking out to my car after school on Friday, September 5, 1997. It was 4:00 p.m. and in the low 80's. It was the end of the first week of school and I had told my third grade class about the Journey North program earlier that week. As I was getting into the car I saw a monarch flying by. There aren't any flowers around the school so the butterfly didn't stop along the way. It just headed in a southern direction across the street.
