Several times throughout the day single monarchs were spotted as my friends and I drove through the countryside. The first three were spotted in St. Charles County, Missouri beginning at 9:40 a.m. and ending around 10:50 a.m. Then we crossed the Mississippi River into Illinois and for the rest of the day monarchs were seen around the fields near the road. Two more monarchs were seen in the apple orchard where we were picking apples. The monarchs were always alone.
