Monarch Adult Sighted

Date: 09/18/1997

Number: 1

Our school is at the base of a big u-shaped hill, actually the outer walls of an old gravel pit. At morning recess the kids and I noticed several monarchs drifting over and started to count. It was 22C with a light breeze. In just 15 min. we counted 29. So we came right back out with our buddies in gr 7/8 and counted 157 in 25 minutes. This was very exciting for us as we are studying monarchs and our second butterfly emerged fron its chrysalis that very day. We launched "Lizzy" to follow her friends! We also caught a caterpillar turning into a chrysalis on video tape!
