I observed vee after vee of sandhill cranes heading south over the southeast corner of Edmonton. They fly so high you first hear them chattering noisily to each other like a bunch of kids at recess. Finally you spot them in the gathering dusk perhaps half a mile over head. A few thousand flew over in the space of about an hour...
