Monarch Adult Sighted

Date: 09/22/1997

Number: 1

We found a Monarch caterpillar on our school playground on September 10. We brought it inside and fed it milkweed. Within 2 days it formed a chrysalis. When we came to school on Monday, Sep 22 it had emerged. We took it to Harper Lake, near our school, to release it. We found another Monarch in the tall grass and released them together to continue the journey south. After 4 days of cloudy, cold weather we saw 1 Monarch on the playground today, September 24, 1997. Mike found a Monarch caterpillar in his backyard on Sep 18, 1997. It formed a chrysalis over the weekend and we're waiting for it to emerge. Mike also found a dead Monarch Butterfly in his backyard on Sep 18.
