Signs of Fall

Sixth grade students at Cincinnati Country Day School, in Cincinnati, Ohio, USA, logged their observations of the changing seasons the week of September 15 -21. Almost all of the 51 noted these signs: tree leaves beginning to change color, especially the maples, bald cypress, oak, Japanese maple, and catalpa; leaves falling; trees going to seed; summer plants (peonies) withering and fall plant blooming (goldenrod); less daylight; cooler mornings; lower humidity; the disappearance of hummingbirds; some monarchs fluttering by and sightings of geese flying in formation.
