One of my students arrived with a small home made terrarium with an injured Monarch inside. The boy had given the butterfly a home of grass, leaves and some milkweed. After checking details, it was realized that the grown butterfly needed nectar to have energy and that the milkweed was eaten when at the caterpillar state. We gave the winged creature some apple cuttings and she nibbled on it all day. When touched, it gripped the boy's fingers and hand and would not let go. It seemed to appreciate the contact with a warm, caring person.
