Monarch Adult Sighted

Date: 09/22/1997

Number: 1

I was outside with a group of teachers from Davenport Elementary Schoolfor about three hours on an overcast afternoon. We watched about 50 monarchs fly overhead during that time. Most of the butterflies were too far up to catch with our nets. They were heading in a southwestern direction but occasionally did circle for a little bit. We found one on a yellow buddleia planted in the butterfly garden. Unfortunately it got away before we could tag it with the Monarch Watch tag. We hope to see more butterflies with the newest cold front.
