On Friday we released a female monarch that we saw go from caterpillar to chrysalis to butterfly in our classroom. It came out of the chysalis at 10:25 in the morning. All of us were amazed at how fast it happened. From the time we saw the split in the chrysalis to the time it was completely out was less than a minute. We released it at around 1:30 in the afternoon on a beautiful sunny day with a slight breeze. It flew well - at least fast enough to stay ahead of a group of children yelling, "Goodbye! Goodbye!"
