Signs of Fall

Date: 08/11/1997

Number: 1

On August 11, 1997, our canoe trip party of three encountered the Kaminuriak caribou herd heading south from the Nejanilini Lake area. The parts of the herd that we saw consisted of widely dispersed groups gradually drifting south along the west side of Little Duck and Nejanilini Lakes. We canoed thru segments of the herd for 2-3 days. After this, on the Roberts and Caribou Rivers, we saw lots of other caribou though they were either alone or in small groups of 4 to 6 animals. Seeing the herd was the definite high point of our canoe trip.
