Monarch Adult Sighted

Date: 09/30/1997

Number: 1

Yesterday it was very windy with gusts reaching 35 MPH here in SE Wis. At 6:30p.m. I went out to pick some flowers in the garden and found a female monarch being buffeted by the wind and clinging desperately to a primrose leaf. I ran indoors and found a tall container and carefully placed her inside with a supply of her favorite buddleia and tithonia flowers. I covered the top with cheesecloth and she spent the night, hanging from her primrose leaf, safe and warm on the top shelf in my pantry. This morning the wind died down and I placed our little guest outdoors and removed the cheesecloth. She had crawled out and was enjoying the buddleia when I left for work.
