Monarchs arriving in mid August in northeast Mississippi
seems a bit unusual.The following is a brief summary
of monarch sightings from August 15, 1997 to September 19, 1997.
8/15/97 First sighting since May. Female nectaring
on wildflowers 6:15 pm.
8/16/97 Two monarchs seen around noon. Erratic flight
patterns.
8/22/97 Monarch seen on butterfly bush around 10:00 am.
Low temp 58 degrees.
8/23/97 Three monarchs observed. Erratic flight.
Low temp 59 degrees.
8/24/97 Monarch observed nectaring on wildflowers.
Low temp 57 degrees.
8/25/97 Monarch observed. Erratic flight.
8/26/97 Monarch observed. Erratic flight.
8/30/97 Two monarchs seen on butterfly bush.
9/19/97 Two monarchs observed flying southwest.
