At Alice Harte Elementary we are developing a Backyard Larning Laboratory on the 3 acres of our school yard. We have a butterfly garden which has milkweed as well as nectar plants. we have a greenhouse and raised vegetable beds. We are planning to root milkweed and put it in our greenhouse in case we have a hard freeze this year. Classes throughout the school raise, tag and release monarch butterflies. Last year one of our tagged monarchs was recovered in Mexico. It is amazing to me the of young children that can tell you everything about monarch butterflies.
