Monarch Adult Sighted

Date: 10/13/1997

Number: 1

Students in our school are really starting to watch for the Monarchs. This past weekend Holdt reported seeing 6 Monarchs together and Blake saw 9. Elizabeth S., Taylor, Andrei, Elizabeth C., Tyler, Jordan, Kimberli, and Austen all saw one each. Mrs. Smith, the second grade teacher saw one Monarch (a male, she says) checking out her red canna lilies Saturday. My husband saw one on the crepe myrtle tree in our back yard. Mrs. Cook, who teaches first grade, saw one Monday on the playground. In my class, Mary Beth reported seeing about 12 this weekend scattered about. Linsay says she saw about 20 together. Drew, Jackson, David, Jonathan, Windham, Charlsie, Carrie, Robert, and Anna saw anywhere from one to five butterflies each. Even Mrs. White, who retired from first grade, said she saw three Monarchs on her butterfly bushes. Many of us have planted butterfly bushes at home and now we want to plant them at school for next year.
