Monarch Adult Sighted

Date: 10/18/1997

Number: 1

I have been waiting to report my LAST monarch of the season, but
I continue to see more! Saturday, October 18 was a warm, sunny
day with temperatures in the high 60s. In spite of a brisk south
wind, we saw 2 monarchs flying to the south during the 15 minutes we watched. Up to today, occasional Monarchs have been sighted
every few days. Perhaps the unusally warm fall temperatures have given "late" larvae time to grow and develop into adults. Our first hard frost finally hit on 10/19/97; in most years this occurs in September.
