Tulips PLANTED

Date: 01/05/1998

Number: 1

We are so excited! The four second grade classes at Southwest Elementary have all finally planted our tulip bulbs. Each class waited one week in between plantings so that we could compare our own data as a school, as well as, using data from the project. Our first 24 bulbs were planted on December 3, 1997. The ground here was still soft. We haven'd had any foul weather nor a hard freeze. Planting was easy. Our last bulbs were planted today - January 5, 1998. This planting occurred after a good snow over the Christmas break. Although the ground had been very hard the last few weeks of December, because of warmer temperatures and the wet ground from melting snow, the bulbs went in very easily.
Children are already beginning to make predictions as to when they believe their own bulb will erupt. We can't wait!
