On Jan. 10 & 11 the Midwinter Bald Eagle Count was held all over the 48 contiguous states, coordinated by the Snake River Field Station (formerly the Raptor Research and Technical Assistance Center). Lake Fork is a large manmade lake in East Texas near Emory in Rains County, which calls itself the Eagle Capital of Texas.
Survey results for Lake Fork, TX-15 were: 32 adults, 10 immatures, and 3 unknown age. There were no golden eagles sighted.
In 1997 there was a total of 56 bald eagles sighted.
